Maybe look for communities (online or at a marina) who already live on boats. Back in elementary school there was a kid in our class whose family lived on a boat house (motor-powered, no sails). They were quite proud to have such a lifestyle, and once they even came to our school to give a short presentations on how pulleys work and how they needed to use it to get to certain parts of their boat.
I bet if you asked politely, communities like this would happily share experience as their lifestyle has become rarer in recent decades.
