I prefer to wear simple gym shorts whenever I go rambling. However, there are a fuck-ton of deer ticks here on the East coast, so every hike is followed by stripping stark naked, checking every orifice, as well as every inch of the drawers that I wore that day.
Probably not worth it, but come tick season, I can't stand to be in anything that hangs lower than my kneecaps.
