Hello, I'm looking for a backpack that would be good for my line of work- archaeology. I need minimal zippers, with none at all if possible since dirt gets caught in them and ruins them- like my 20yr old one that died recently. It needs to have high volume but not be too big: backpacking bags are ultra-overkill for 8 hours a day of hiking around digging holes. I have to fit snacks, plenty of water, trowels, measuring tape, brushes and other odds and ends. Many newer backpacks I've seen have lots of thin pockets, being intended for school use and such- which is the opposite of what I need.
Any advice on good backpacks I could consider.
Alternatively, is it possible to replace zippers entirely? The teeth on pic related are mangled from dirt jams. I can probably put more duct tape on the straps and patch the holes in the bottom, so I don't want to give up on this thing just yet.
