I'm illustrating a story that takes place in the forests of east-central WV (Wayne, right up against Kentucky).
Right now I'm trying to do research on the kinds of trees I'd see deep in those woods. Of course I've googled around for "common trees of West Virginia" but the images (and lists) that come up are usually of isolated trees in rather lived-in areas, not exactly a representative sample of what would you'd actually see deep in the untouched parts of the forests themselves.
most of the pictures I see have lots of short to medium height spindly looking trees (pic related for an example). Though I spent time in the area as a kid, I never learned the names of the trees when I had the chance and now I just don't have the memory or regional knowledge anymore to readily identify what they are.
I really want to do the area justice and be accurate to the local flora. Would you guys mind throwing me a bone and helping me out with what trees you'd expect to see?
