Hollow points don't penetrate enough and FMJ sometimes deflects away your aim point. If you're planning on dealing with black bears then I'd move up to 10mm. Apparently 10mm can take a grizzly or moose, but I wouldn't count on it. Don't be gay hick and shoot gators for fun, only if you need to.
You don't care about size/weight nothing says fuck you like a hot 12ga 00 buckshot load or a slug. Some of the 3" magnum slugs can take down a grizzly/moose. My 20" 590 can carry 8+1+1 by ghost loading which is some serious firepower.
