They are an awful organization that provide no services to thru-hikers and they take up spaces where shelters should be.
North Carolina is probably the most difficult. Many pointless ups and downs and dramatic elevation changes. That followed by Virginia.
In the beginning and end I had pre-bought food mailed to me. 5 days total. Later there are towns which are closer together. At that point, I would carry 3 days of food.
