>>2297873Well this thread sent me researching Casios for couple of days.
The majority of G-Shocks are style items, be it rugged but still made for watch nerd bragging rights.
However as i understand, and correct me if i'm wrong, there's a 'f-91w' within the G-shocks too, the first DW-5000C that spun off the 5000/5600 square "Origin" series.
> https://www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/wat/g_shock/origin/This series keeps the original no bullshit aesthetic and covers all feature/price ranges. You can get one that's feature wise almost on par with the original one for cheap and then you can go up adding stuff like, solar charging, radio time, even bluetooth connectivity, riced out metal bodies, ultralight titanium screws and what not. Its just like f-91w - you can get the original one for cheap and then a pimped out one for five times the price.
I'm not buying one yet, especially since next year is the 40th anniversary of the original gshock and i suspect they will release something new and interesting in the 5600/5000 range just for that reason alone.
But for today:
> pic related> https://www.g-shock.eu/euro/watches/the-origin/gw-m5610u-1er/> solar recharging> radio time> countdown timer (for counting approx. distance traveled when navigating with map)> non-meme backlight> zero phone/app/bluetooth bullshit> tough/mineral glass> 55g> ~120euIf i'm not missing anything this thing could be lost in the woods for a decade, picked up, cleaned, left in sun for a bit, and given the atomic radio stations are still alive (and they are since 60's so that's some pretty stable boomer tech right there) should show the exact time within microsecond. If it had a barometer and thermometer without breaking the aesthetic and size i would crown it the ultimate out watch. Period.
I'm starting to understand why this shit has cult following, and i want in.
Please poke holes in my logic, i want to know where im wrong/correct.
