that year prior, my father and i had taken the same vehicle on a road in owens valley to look for an airplane wreck. we ended up getting stuck in a sand dune and had to use a wagon jack, a motorcycle ramp and some rocks from an outcrop a half a mile or so away to get out. it took the better part of 3 hours in the daytime heat.
the best part was the littering of broken boards and 40oz liquor bottles throughout the dune. at least we weren't the first idiots on that road.
