I caught my first big fat fucking fish. I was just fishing for dinks on my ultralight rod when suddenly this 18 inch beast gets on the hook. The drag went off like crazy, I was scared, thought I'd never pull it in. But gradually its bursts got weaker and weaker and I was able to very slowly pull it in. I had 4lb leader didn't want overdo the drag, so I gently pinched the line itself so I could get a better feel for the kind of drag I thought would be safe on the line. Bless the rod for not snapping, fiberglass saved my life.
However, it's a little bittersweet because it was hook on the outside of its mouth, so I'm thinking it was just a very lucky snag. I don't like snagging fish. It's not very sporting.
