I feel most knives today are designed by people who know nothing about knives, hipster graphic designers getting their inspiration from movies or whatever. If people want serrations, fine. Serrations are fine as long as a plain edge version is also available. Making knives weak by adding unnecessary weak points is the problem.
Batoning used to be a normal practice. I did it as a child long before learning it's called batoning. I did it with a cheap mora no longer in production. It didn't break. Recently I visited my parents and I saw the old rusted blade. Soon it will be sharper than it was 20 years ago.
