>>818404Central Coast CA here, this anon is right about the other anon being right. All of the trails on the coast are filled with hippie path walkers and bay area city people.
Around here State Parks has snatched up every square inch of decent land and it's either no-go for anyone or a very well groomed, over populated car camp, complete with $30/plate restaurants, gift shops and espresso bars just down the road, and plenty of room to park your Mercedes/Audi/Prius, for a fee of course. Don't forget your Padagucci wardrobe and jogging stroller for the ankle biters!
Lucky for us the Sierras are still fairly wild, but even that is changing. Where I go it used to be only hunters, serious woodsmen and dope growers. Now there's more dope growers every year and they made one of the main roads (barely more than a fire road) a "Scenic Byway" so now you get Priuses and Subarus tearing through kicking up dust and then stopping suddenly and parking in the middle of the road so that the hipster behind the wheel can get a picture of a squirrel.
I can't wait to finish college and get the hell out of this place.
