That will absolutely discover, blind, and disarm anyone at night near or far. If someone has their eyes adjusted to night vision and you blast them with one of those they will be blind for at least a couple minutes which gives you absolute upper hand. I keep my 3000lm spotlight next to the bed in case of a home intruder (even during the day this thing is blinding).
The only other thing that's going to help is just getting used to it. I used to get spoop'd out all the time alone in the woods even during the day, nevermind at night. But I just started doing it more; hikes, field recording expeditions, campouts, you name it. And after awhile you just get comfortable. You'll be fine.
