Look into replacing the stock kidney pad and shoulder straps with those from the more recent MOLLE gear setups--there's installation guides on the Youtube and some websites. Both don't exactly do much toward wegiht reduction but they're a sight more comfortable than the stock webbing. Adding the MOLLE Sleep Carrier System also allows you an easy way to haul a sleeping bag and small tent system, or otherwise expand your carrying capacity--the latter can also be done with either the MOLLE Sustainment Pouches or the ALICE's own buttpack.
