>>113990Oh, no, the 4.0 inline 6 is an extremely reliable engine. As for offroading, you'll also just want to look at the front axle; some of the older XJs had a low pinion front dana 30, which will be a bit more vulnerable to rocks and hanging up.
For the record, the 4.3L (like in my truck) from Chevy is also pretty darn reliable. Apparently some people have had problems with their S10s, but my ZR2 has never had a mechanical issue. The stock ball joints aren't a fan of 33x12.5 tires though.
