>>2024512Yeah getting cheap carbon ones is no good. I've used the same pair of black diamond aluminum trekking poles for about 7 years now and if you don't abuse they will last. Something I've also heard is that if you really are a poorfag you can buy used ski poles and they'll work. Although for the portability and adjustability of $100-200 poles I'd say it's worth it to bite the bullet initially. I've never heard of anyone buying trekking poles and saying "actually yeah I hike better without them this was a waste".
