>>21994038 is plenty. I used a 7'6 rod today out in the surf and caught fish. Way more fun to catch things on a shorter rod imo. If you're planning to cast and retrieve a lot, a longer rod with a huge reel is gonna tire you out faster. The 10-12 foot rods are great though if your plan is to bait and wait. If you're planning to use lures and move a lot, the 8 foot will be perfect.
