I'd probably make them out of green sycamore since it is hard, has good density, and works easily while green without checking or splitting. I just need to test out how well eye bolts work with it as to how easily they can be loosened and pulled out while fighting a fish.
They are so expensive that making them at home is a very viable solution for me and I can sell a few at fairly cheap rates to recoup any money I spend on making them. I doubt I could make them move as nicely as the ones in
