Hey /out/, I'm a young English lad who's planning a big America road trip with my chum. A place we definitely want to check out when we're in Oregon is Crater Lake National Park. I've had a good look at this place on Google Earth and a read a bit about it online but I was just wondering if it's possible to get to Wizard Island and hike to the top of it.
From what I can tell this area circled in red looks like it's fairly shallow water and it also doesn't appear to be a long distance (could be wrong though, I've never been here before) Would it be possible to swim this distance? And another thing would be how on earth would we manage to get down those big cliffs? They don't appear too steep but instinct tells me they're probably bigger and steeper than they seem.
I've also heard that you can catch boats to wizard island? We're doing this road trip as cheap as possible though and I'd rather have the satisfaction of getting to wizard island myself but if that's not possible a boat would be an option.
Also might as well make this a Crater Lake thread. Share experiences of hiking around Crater Lake, it looks really beautiful and I wanna know all about it.
