Ankle support? Problem is thick heavy soles that require hefty materials and straps to keep you from rolling off it because there's no feeling there. A light weight shoe, with as thin a sole as possible that also fits tight to your foot, is going to be better for your ankles if you aren't a clumsy heel stomper.
Pic related are what I used as a daily shoe, hiking, tree planting and almost everything else short of winter and work requiring steel toes. The main thing is being aware of where you're stepping and not just lumbering through paying no attention.
