It's clearly been abandoned for a long time but it's in a rather nice area in terms of safety. The neighbors next door are house-apartments on one side and extremely cheap motel on the other. The neighbors in the house-apartments leave their windows wide open and don't shut the blinds so they apparently don't care that we're next door.
If I had to guess I'd say the bank completely owns it but doesn't care, lost paperwork or has it filed under dangerous or something because 8 years is a long time for it to be abandonded. Someone overdosed in a shed outside 5 years ago. I told Diver i'd try to figure out how to start the process of claiming the house and shit, like you hear of happening, but i'm afraid if I started sending letters they might just decide they want the property.
