People in the western world have been cleaning up rivers, shutting down polluters, or forcing them to change their manufacturing methods, and recycling & "waste management" is a western concept, trickling all the way down to the consumers.
The chinese have no history of this, and have been focused 100% on profit, with little or no regard for health, and damaging ecosystems.
Chemicals are not handled responsibly, and often horrific waste is just piped straight into a river...
Whenever this happens in a western nation, people are fired, companies are fined, and even shut down... In China, or India, if you save a company some big bucks buck on dumping an expensive and toxic problem in the river, or forge a report stating that all that could be done, was done, you get a fucking bonus...
