DD tarp 3x3 and a mesh skeeter inner tent work wonders. Something wide enough to give you the heavy rain cover and something you can sleep in skeeter free but rig up inside makes the different. Essentially it's a tent without being pole dependant. So you can do the hiking pole + skeeter tent + DD 3x3 (10ft by 10ft for you) and it will pack up to nothing. Also you will be able to use it with hammocks and retain that option wiothout having a devoted one size fits all setup.
So DD 10x10 tarp should be like 45 usd.
Skeeter net inner you can get from them for a really nice one with a bucket floor for around the same. Or you can get a really cheap ali express tier one. Get some aluminium tri stake pegs. At least 8 and you can config the tarp with plenty of options and it can be nailed down for those heavy winds even if it's humid as well. This is what I do for the rainy seasons. Hope that helps.
