Greetings /out/, just got back from my first fishing trip in over a decade. I decided to get back into it thanks in large part to /out/ reminding me how much fun I used to have while fishing. Anyway, I went out today and bought my license, a few things I needed and decided to spend the afternoon fishing. I live in Southern California (boo! hiss!) and the San Bernardino mountains are my backyard so I decided to start there. I went up to the Santa Ana river, which is regularly stocked but sports native browns, 'bows and rumors of brooks. I figured I'd set myself up for an easy catch or two to get back in the feel of fishing. Spaghetti followed.
>first lure snags and I can't retrieve it
>second lure get's a hit, shitty knot that I swore by years ago, breaks
>setting up third lure, hook right index finger
>third lure snags, go to retrieve it and fall in the river
>third lure doesn't get so much as a bite, try another
>setting up fourth lure, hook left index finger
>fourth lure snags, go to retrieve it and fall in the river again
>spaghetti erupts out of my pockets
>insects, insects everywhere
>at this point, I am out of patience, switch to bait chucking
>after three hours of spaghetti, insects and failure, catch a stocked 8" rainbow
>pack up and call it a day
So after being eaten alive by insects, falling in the damn river (lolcreek) twice and hooking myself twice, I caught something that'll go after anything you throw in front of it. God I missed fishing and can't wait to go it again!
Tomorrow I'll be up at Big Bear Lake where there will be less insects, no river (lolcreek) to fall in and a lot less spaghetti. I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures though, I really wanted to but spent my time cursing instead. I'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow!
