So If you trick around a little (using mulch, choosing best microclimate in your garden...) you can easily extend the growing season by up to 1-2 months, this allows me to start my tomatoes and peppers indoors by early to mid-February and plant them in the ground usually in late March. This is doubly good because not only can they root more this way, also at that point the sun isn't too strong yet, so they won't get as easily sunburned compared to planting them in May, when the UV index is already high
