While it may be overkill for summer, I will say I've never had a problem where a sleeping pad "was too warm" whereas I I have frequently been in the situation where my sleeping pad wasn't indsulative enough and my back felt like a block of ice. Not with my neoair xtherm though, that R5.7 keeps me warm down into the single digits.
