>>932131can confirm- there's something spoopy about deserts at night. the worst night i ever spent outside was car camping alone in the table-lands in the eastern sierra
>solo bouldering-trip on BLM land>like my privacy, so drive a quarter mile from the last car i spotted on the washboard road system>no brush/treecover for miles. no outroppings nearby that i can pull the car into>pull into a rubble clearing; wide open, level ground, smooth gravel, scrubby sagebrush >already dark. wind blasting off the mountains>it'd been a scorching early-summer day, but the temp was dropping fast>air tasted funny. too humid. greasy, even as the wind clawed at me>drop the seats and set up for a cozy night in the hatchback>moonlight only illuminated only about 10ft around the car>tap. tap tap. fucking tap tap tap tap tap >flip on night-into-day 200lumen headlamp>it's fucking nothing.jpg>tapping continues for more than an hour. like a fingernail lightly on glasseventually manage to pass out around 11pm despite the noise circling the outside of the car
>wake up around 3am, car shaking in the wind, drenched in sweat. not religious- but dreamt vividly of demon possession. something clawed, long-fanged and slithering digging between my shoulderblades
>force myself to sleep>wake up just after dawn feeling bruised all over- coulda been from a long day of climbingfelt something cold and heavy settle in my chest, couldn't shake it for more than a week
seriously some of the worst ju-ju i've felt anywhere.
i don't know what it was but i'm never ignoring that shit again. you can call it instinct or subconscious trying to let me know this was a bad place (too exposed, whatever). don't ignore it.
