Let's talk chicken nipples, /out/.
These things can be stuck into just about any type of plastic so long as the hole size is drilled correctly. I've seen them installed in the bottom of buckets, caps of soda bottles, pex water lines, pvc/cpvc water lines, etc. The water pressure needs to be under 1PSI so either just a container of water or use a pressure reducer on your main water line.
I bought a bunch of them to be used for the adult chickens and the chicks. The adults will have a main water line with these installed. The chicks will have small containers that stick through their cages. The cages I'm making use welded wire in small size holes in the bottom (1/2" x 1") and larger holes for the sides and top (1" x 2").
I've been trying to come up with the simplest and cheapest methods to get feed and water into the cages without cutting new holes in the cages and without needing to open the cage to mess around with containers of water or feed. Even the litter will be contained in a low cardboard box the cage will sit on top of. Easy cleaning, hopefully.
>pic related, the cage I made (30"x24"x24") with a googled image of some chicken nipple waterers
What I've decided on and will make are 1"OD PVC pipe feeder/waterers. Their reservoirs will sit on top of the cage and the pipes will slip through the existing cage holes.
