>>2108457>>2108503New chickenfag here, I brought a pic of the coop. Still very much a work in progress, but made a bunch of progress on it today.
As for sturdiness, I'm 180lbs - I can hang on the closest side roof and it holds my weight. I can't say it does it comfortably since it's not really anchored to the ground, but I can stand on the bottom platform and walk around on it no problem. It'll be even more solid once the sides are up, which are 1/2" ply which will be nailed on in all over.
For the roof, I'm gonna have another sheet of ply cover the big inner part, and then some tin roofing to cover the larger area which should give them some added cover for inclement weather, but they'll also have the area underneath it available to them. Nest boxes are going to be on the small wall on the right (3 of them), back wall from this perspective will open up for easy cleaning and a wheelbarrow fits comfortably under and behind it to make cleaning even more easy when the time comes. Left small wall is going to be a ventilation window, wall closest us is going to be facing their run which is a roughly 15'x15' area. The internal area of the coop is roughly 42"x8'.
By my calculations I should be able to comfortably house at least the 6 I plan on getting, which is the minimum order for most online hatcheries I've seen. I should be able to house quite a few more if I want, but I heard that's how chicken math works so I made as big of a coop as I could reasonably make. Most of the design was just for ease of cleaning though - deep litter method means I'm accounting for roughly 10 inches of litter before I even think about running into problems opening and closing the door, which should hopefully limit deep cleanouts to once or twice per year, even without a poop bar for nightly droppings.
As far as a brooder goes, I'm just gonna brood them in the coop I think. As long as the front door is closed it should be the perfect environment for them.
