Not a lot scares me when /out/ especially at altitude but one time I was solo hiking in the sierras laying in my tent changing into warmer layers when I heard heavy footsteps come right up to the tent. I had the rain fly on and couldnt see wtf it was so I zipped up the tent door and laid on my stomach peeking out the vestibule hole.. some close footsteps then something big flat and heavy steps right on my foot through the tent. I jerk my foot and yelled startling it and I heard it run off. I told myself it was a bear for a while but when I jerked my foot I swear I heard a persons startled noise and not an animals which is usually just a fast breath out, and the cadence of the running sounded more human like .....anyways I made a spear that night with a walking stick, knife and para cord. Blew up my fishing tube halfway to sleep under and strung monofilament booby traps all around my camp. Slept half awake thinking some crazy person was loose in the hills.....
freaked me out to say the least.
