Modern environmentalism has turned into just broad virtue signalling for liberals and teenage leftists, where they focus on these problems being either simple shit that sharing a post about it on facebook and calling your senator/governor will fix or that by coming at it from a individual level where "if everyone just recycled man!" everything would just be fine. Beyond that it's just hard to combat corporations who have loads of money behind them and local governments are loathe to challenge them given that they can potentially bring money in. Lastly most people are so alienated from the environment around them (not to mention just being alienated in general) that they don't really understand or care that it's all being fucked up or don't want to take the effort to try and fix it, especially if they view it as inconveniencing in any way.
