>>2345880I just got a random pair of microspikes from a local outdoors store. They work fine but I think I’ve only used them twice. Nearly all people I’ve met who do use them regularly, often just for getting around icy af mountain towns, swear by these things called YakTraxs. Mostly if I’m in a traction situation I’m either on my skis and use my ski crampons or in my boots where I use boot crampons + axe.
>>2345931I’ve seen this happen to a couple of friends their first day out on a split board. I guess the flex is very different bc of the split. They were totally comfortable after a day boarding around on it at the resort. During my AIARE class there was a fellow student who put their board on for the very first time on top of a fairly steep and icy bowl we had gone out to as part of our class. She was obviously shocked and now scared on this new, alien board. Moral is ride your gear to get used to it bc it’s different, before dropping into consequential terrain.
