Anyway my gear was all good with the exception of the boots and the meals which weren’t very pleasant nor energetic, I already knew it but feeling it is different, I need new foods and new boots.
I don’t get the hate for Gatorade, it’s just water but satisfies your thirst more, I also brought water ofc, just not all water.
I know the saw was useless I just wanted to bring anyway from some reason.
The sleeping mat worked surprisingly, but I slept under a big rock so the ground wasn’t snowed on, the night temp went down to approx -12C / 10F and during the day it was around -6C / 21F.
My boots sucked ass because they’re not waterproof so my feet got a bit wet with the snow, plus they’re low so snow got into them, and the soles are flat so I fell on ice like 40 times, I’ll probably buy meindl dovre extreme gtx for winter boots.
The pack surprised me because it actually carried the weight 17kg/37lbs well and the small hip belt wasn’t a problem at all, actually felt better than the other SATL I had which was the new gen with bigger hip belt.
The gas stove is a godsend and allows me to cook shit quickly and easily plus I can just make hot water to drink and warm up, and also heat up my steel canteen to put between my legs while sleeping.
I woke up late so I started the hike at 16:30 and did almost all of the first day in the dark with my headlamp, I reached the end of the tree lines where the snow and ice starts and kept going looking for my destination which was a refuge, said to be closed by google maps so I didn’t plan on sleeping there or whatever it was just the end goal, but after going in the snow for some time I started getting tingling and numb toes so I went back to a place I had seen earlier along the trail that offered shelter under a rock, shitted myself a bit honestly plus for smoke my thought I was going back the wrong way, but it wasn’t the case.
