>>1750644Well, unfortunately my little meller plant did not survive. It was just too gruesome for him. Shriveled up and dead this evening. Had to plant another seed, which kind of annoys me, but what else can I do.
On the other hand, worked a bit more on my Hugel. Bottom layer of dead tree logs and thick branches, with thinner branches and stalks on top of that, then a layer of dried leaves on top of that, and finally a layer of partial compost that's been working since the beginning of the year.
Pretty decent if you ask me. All that's left now is for me to pile on the actual dirt. Now what I'm wondering is if I should use the dirt directly around it that I dug out (and some more), or if I should use something else. It is clay, as you can see by the big fucking clumps of almost-rock. I do have a pile of sand nearby that I may be able to utilize if that's a valid option.
What should I do here? I'm going to want to pile it up to about 2 feet. Any more and the dirt will be too deep, I think.
