Also, you'll remove less material going with a more obtuse point than the original design. The problem there is the finish just wont be consistent.
So one option is just to grind away along the edge, forgetting about taper. As a result, assuming you keep the same angle, the width of the edge at the point would be wider than the rest of the blade.
