Oh not a knock on Appalachia by any means. Big fan of the Green Mountain Boys. I lived in Virginia for a while, spent time innawoods there and West Virginia as well. God's country. I thought think the PNW is grander in scale when comparing the too. Redwoods are hard to beat.

Thinking of Harvest Moon-ing it, leaving my job and starting a small home/homestead back in my home state. Found some cheap land but I have no idea what i'm doing. I've found a lot of books and I'm reading like a man possessed but I could use some advice.

Wanting to mostly farm but raise a few animals (chickens, goats) but what should I REALLY be asking myself? What should I be trying to do? What skills should I learn? Grew up in rural south and the mountains so not starting entirely from scratch. Hunting advice? Firearms? Also what land should I be looking for? Or am I retarded for even trying this?

Just trying to get my life straightened out and, honestly, I think this is the best way for me to provide for my family.

(Also been trying to post this in /adv but 4chan's being autistic)
