Old BMW R series bikes are good and surprisingly cheap, only problem is they're 40+ years old so finding a restored one is preferable if you don't mind getting it dirty.
Ural stole the design for their bikes from the Germans during WWII but made them with shitty parts. You're still getting the ruggedness advertised by Ural but in an actually good bike. And of course it has a sidecar for carrying your gear and a little stability help on bumpy trails.
What I would give to romp around in a WWII-era R12...
