People that got depressed went to work at Walmart or something and didn't have any other life goals.You were babysat by the US government, who paid off your debts, paid all of your bills, housed, clothed, and fed you, and then sent you to school to boot. You essentially got a huge payout for agreeing to be a tool of the government, and it's important to recognize that. I served from 2001-2007 and received the same payout.
Instead of wondering why poor people are depressed and stuck working shit jobs, you should instead be contemplating the implications that agreeing to shoot people on command for the Federal government is one of the best ways to escape from poverty in the US. Goals are very important, but not everyone has the opportunity nor the resources to make their goals happen.
