>>1773114Not sure what you're specialty was but many allow for remote jobs. And generally at least you could also learn to program and get a remote job (especially post Covid I expect) and work wherever you want. It'd take like two years effort.
If not there are one (major) company towns, spread throughout the country. Chemical plants don't get built near cities and such. My uncle and grandfather are chemical engineers and live in small towns. Find a employer like that.
