So I get to the fire and I see my friends sort of awkwardly sitting there. They're obviously uncomfortable so I look around and notice a bunch of oddly proportioned (odd even for being on psychedelic drugs) teenagers drinking beers. One dude is like 6'8" and skinny as a rail with a tiny head. Most of them have missing teeth and they're only like 18-19. They offered me a beer so I accepted it (never turned down a beer on the trail) and tried to relax. I look around and notice that they have about 20 knives of different shapes and sized stuck in all the trees around their campsite, so I start to feel really uncomfortable. I look at my friends and they're both obviously sketched out, but at the same time it was an interesting experience just being there so we didn't dip out for a while. I asked them about the knives, they said it was in case a bear entered their camp. I still can't figure out the logic behind this idea, but at the time I imagined them jumping around like fucking acrobats from tree to tree chucking knives at a bear and just started laughing out loud. After that I pretty much just had to leave, was really starting to trip out so I headed back to our campsite.

Mostly cowboy camped with just my sleeping bag and sleeping pad.

Used a Z-Lite (the "torso" version) pad and the REI igneo sleeping bag. Can't recommend the Igneo enough, best sleeping bag I've ever owned. Water resistant, under 2 lbs, 19 degree F rating, duck down that still works if it gets wet.

If it was raining then I'd set up my rain tarp. 8'x10' CCS tarp. Weighed under a pound. If I was at a shelter and it was relatively empty I would just sleep in there during rain.

Originally I carried a Hennessy Hammock but I didn't like having to set it up so I never used it. Sent it home after a month or so. I really just like sleeping under the stars, dislike tents and the like.
