I'm sad because I majored in chemistry, and now I know it'll be difficult to get a job as a ranger.
When I visited Muir Woods, I was talking to the ranger there about how she got to that point, and it doesn't sound easy. Undergrad in forestry, masters in storytelling and performance, and years of volunteering/ bugging NPS people to finally get a job.
I've been hiking since I could walk, and my technical degree and experience proves I'm smart enough to learn the work. But it looks like I'll have to take a job as a cashier at Death Valley or something just to live my dreams.
I don't care though. Visiting California for a week opened my eyes. I'd be ok with being poor to be able to see this kinda stuff every weekend.
