>>561608I hiked mount Marcy (the tallest peak in the Adirondacks) plus the other 5 high peaks of the Adirondacks about a year ago and it was pretty cool man. For Mount Marcy it's about six miles one way to the top from the start of the trail and the grade only gets steep in the last mile or so. There are plenty of beautiful views along the way and the weather should be nice if you're going in August. My buddies and I hiked a circuitous route that hits all the other peaks but you're talking a 84-85 km at that point. Granted there are various little towns and villages along the route to resupply. Camping is mostly primitive and as long as you camp below the treeline you won't need anything too heavy duty to keep warm even at night.
