ok /out/, I'm fairly new to backpacking and camping, but I've built a pack and have spent a few weekend trips out at some local trail/camping land. I'm confidently able to live out of my pack for 3 days. I want to do the ultimate test by hiking a few miles into state land and just plopping down next to a water source. I'd rather not get super lost so I'm looking for a GPS. I was thinking about getting the Fortex 401 and using it with a USGS map of the area (UTM markings).

Anyone have any experience with the fortex 401?
