I suppose you can use this info to learn how to best tie flies that look more like real world insects as well as research what that insect does when it hits the water. Then you can alter you techniques for the lure once it is in the water. Like for a popper, I think it repeatedly simulates something initially hitting the water as well as something struggling that shouldn't already be in the water.
