>>1308177They can call it the Iron Horse trail, Palouse to Cascades trail or anything else. It will continue to be the John Wayne trail. I've done all of it from the west trailhead to Kittitas. I never had any desire to head east from there to where you can't cross the Colombia, although maybe I'll need to make a loop with that and the Vantage highway.
I've done the essentially all of Colombia Plateau trail along the Snake. It starts off okay, and gets really, really nasty. There was a section where a landslide had just covered it with big rocks. Pulling my bike over/around them was a very trying experience. While I was struggling through that, a freight train cruised by on the other side. No river access for miles in either direction. He honked his horn, presumably saying hello to me.
I've also paralleled it between Kahlotus and Washtucna. The roads out there are quiet enough that I didn't feel the need to get off the asphalt and on to the nightmarish gravel.
