Had a litter of sprocker pups once when my springer got out and hooked up with the cocker 4 doors down. She managed to get through a gap in the hedge that a bloody rabbit would've struggled to fit through and the dog got over one 5 foot and one six foot fence to get at each other. lol.
Like you say, naturally smart, very loyal, mad as a box of frogs when they're playing.
Mine came preprogrammed to go after anything with feathers. I think that's been bred into them over the years. Stick to the field springers, the show springers come with a load of problems and don't look right.
