>>2520937>Autism. Cane poles are great, but they don’t replace regular poles, just augment them.8 cane poles guy here. I use a wider variety of fishing rods/poles than the vast majority of posters in this thread. I have rods, reel, and tackle designed to catch fish weighing in at less than an ounce all the way up to 100+ lbs., in conditions ranging from a mud puddle to open water, in all types of weather, when dealing with any amount of obstruction/cover (including literally standing inside of a bush) or taking advantage of open skies, from rod holder fishing to bank fishing to kayak/canoe fishing to wading, I just about do it all.
The only type of sport fishing I don't do is trolling, and big-game, open-water fishing (with my own equipment, that is).
Giant $5,000 winches have their place in fishing, and so does a literal stick. Not as a LARP, but because you need a fairly short pole (or hobo reel) with a fixed line to best fish some waters in some environments.
It's people who stick to spinning rods and baitcasters with 6.5'-8.5' rods who are limiting themselves. I love plastic worms and aluminum lures in a tackle box too, that was my childhood, but that isn't "the fishing experience" definitively.
