As for a lighter sleeping bag and pad, take a look at Western Mountaineering's 32 degree Summerlite bag, which weighs about 19 ounces. I used to own one, but got sick of being cold on those trips where the temps dipped into the upper 20s. Gossamer Gear makes some really light closed cell foam pads. You could stack a few of them for temps down to the 30s and still only pack like 12 oz of weight for your sleeping pad. I don't use them exclusively anymore because they only have about a 20-30 nights lifespan before they start to flatten out (all closed cell foam pads flatten out, but these do it about twice as fast as something like a Ridgerest).
