In a pond or small lake, a pfd isnt super necessary. On a giant lake or the ocean/bays, wear it. You never know man, its not worth your life. You could fall off, get wrapped up in something etc...
Leashes are so that everytime you drop something you dont lose it. Paddle, rods, tackle bag, cooler etc...
