My wife and I just got our first home where we’re going to live while we save for a large piece of land to build a house on. Our current house is in the middle of the city, so my garden is limited to the size of my backyard.
Our goal is to be able to survive any odd event that might come our way, such as catastrophic weather, hyperinflation of the dollar, etc. We want to be self sufficient. Not in a “Off The Grid” type of way, but able to make ends meet if we didn’t have all of the luxuries offered to us by modern society.
What is the minimum amount of land you would recommend for something of that nature? What should I be learning to grow? Are there any animals such as chickens or pigs that are worth the money you pay to feed them? Do I need to have multiple grow fields to prevent sapping the soil? Where the fuck do I even start?
