I had to take my ex wife to the nearest city with a car rental place. After dropping her off there, I took the back way back to my county, and stopped by the Nature Preserve trail in a little forest reserve area, which I often do when making this trip. There is a plaque there explaining that despite this being an oak/hickory forest, right in the middle there are these two 200+ year old pines, which indicates it having been a clearing at the time, thus allowing them to grow before the dominant species filled in the canopy.
